gardening

In mind so fallow for a time
my muse has seemingly returned
My gift for poetry and rhyme
and heartfelt letters had been spurned

So long ago in days of youth
I thought my heart with wisdom could
keep seeking undiluted truth
and use its strength to work some good

Now I question everything
including where my heart was placed
Alone my heart just cannot bring
the happiness it longs to taste

The pieces kept to start anew
do nourish new love’s tender shoots
Chances to plant again are few
Better to save established roots
