Trapeze Act

Walking on a trembling trapeze wire
I feel unable to keep my balance.
As I struggle to stay in control and
Fight to stay steadfast.

My fingers feel numb as
My arms wave in a feeble attempt
To grasp something solid but
Only fall back to my side.

Grasping at thin air and
Shaking with fear
At the thought of falling-
Without a net of safety.

Afraid of losing every step
That I've worked so hard for.
Only to have to climb that ladder again and
Retrace every moment of my life.
