Escape by Bus

The other night, I prayed to you instead of God. It seems you listen just as well.
I said, "I'm giving up. I'll quit my job and take a bus." Next day, you say you miss me on the phone.
And how could I just wash away your sticky smile and overloaded eyes?
How could I just wash away the silence - I didn't have the courage to lie.
I emptied my heart to the night and tried to trick the shadows to burn.
I swallowed life like a pill, but now I find myself hoping you'll return - again.
I hear the sound of your voice again.

I take a ride on the silver dog,
Endless ribbon leading west. Music fills me over the miles.
In my dreams, I'm lost somehow. I wander through a burning house
Rich with rooms and broken things. You say the value is going down.
