Watching and Waiting

Sleep now babygirl
But for me
Well
I want to sit here awhile and watch you breathe
And wonder
Just how we came to be
How far we’ve journeyed, and how far we’ll go
And as I watch the moonlight slowly lighten your form
I can almost see a nimbus of gold
Glowing softly around
Perhaps a dream taking shape in the night
Of better places and softer lives
Yet to live.

Sleep now babygirl
I want to sit here awhile and watch you dream
And wonder
How can I love you so deeply
As I’ve never know love could be
And why
When I look at you there
A woman of tender heart and abiding grace
Do I see a young girl in her jeans
Fresh and full of laughter and love
Whose spirit is a living, growing vine
Pulling me closer, nearer my purpose
Wrapping me tightly
With whispering promises
Yet to make.

Sleep now babygirl
I want to sit here and watch you sleep
In a time and a place where we are lovers
Two souls as one
United and consecrated to one another
And bound by the calling of two hearts
That have sailed these waters before
From times remembered only in the depths of each other
When our passion rings the night with melodies
Heard within two beating hearts
As they join in harmony to speak
Softly of love
Sweet, simple love
In a rainbow of colors and tastes
And flavors and textures
Yet to discover.
