Presbyterian Girl

I couldn't help but laugh the first time we kissed.
I'll remember and cherish the brief memory
of a golden good time
gazing at the twinkle in blue grey sky eyes.

I guess it was too much that I took you too far
carressed your beautiful naked body
kissed your neck, your back, you breasts, your thighs
Rubbed you like a robot
revved you like a race car
until I ran out of gas
as you were praying
god
Oh God
OH GOD
You're such a good presbyterian girl.
At 4 am on a Sunday
communing with a higher power
I was taking you to the limit

I was trying to take you to heaven
Maybe that's why I've fallen from grace
Did you see the look on my face
when I realized you didn't really want to take me there?
Though you took me everywhere I needed to go.
Though I thanked you for the half-hearted trying.

I am the square peg
that tried to fit into the round hole
in your life.

It's too bad you're too scared to squeeze me in
It's too bad you don't know me well enough to know
that my thanks was genuine
my interest was real
and my expectations were that you'd try to stop me before we got this far
or that we'd probably take two steps back
and slow down
to get there faster
and that I would have still liked seeing you anyway
if all I did was see you
Though I had to know what it felt like
to touch you
everywhere.
But I understand that you're scared of falling...
I understand that you're scared of flying...
You're such a good presbyterian girl.

I couldn't help but laugh the first time we kissed.
I'll remember and cherish the brief memory
of a golden good time
gazing at the twinkle in blue grey sky eyes.

You're such a good presbyterian girl.

It's too bad you don't know how to drive
It's too bad you're scared of flying down the highway
at seventy-five miles an hour
with the wind in your hair
holding hands
and
smiling
