Borealis

She drifted off to dream, he stayed awake, caressing her cheek,
It was his lone method of connection, for he dared not to speak.
Too often words proved fatal to the thaw of an embittered resolve,
So necessities of passionate silence showed him how to evolve.
Enraptured whispers crept under breath; but no words slipped,
Terror of another casualty sealed lips like an entreasured crypt.

She came with nothing but love, her gift to a man she so adored,
Heart bearing no prejudice of venomous memories he stored.
Jade windows, brimming with devotion, captured elusive gaze,
Sunlight of her hair warmed imagination from an icy malaise.
He said nothing to disturb the night, lest he forfeit a bliss,
She wiggled for comfort; he leaned down, met her with a kiss.

On that she opened eyes, as always smiling because he was near,
Her face showed confusion observing him trembling with such fear.
She reached over, took his hand, placed it gently upon her chest,
Showing him where he belonged, reassuring him what he possessed.
Other hand then encircled his, and she pulled him closer to her side,
Embraced him gently, rocked him to sleep and joined him, satisfied.
