There's a dream I've had more than once Of a time before we knew each other, and yet We're lying in bed, my arms around your waist Feeling the 'kick' of new life from within you As you sleep with your hands on mine I feel the beginning of a love So strong that I wake up in tears. Seventeen years before I asked for your story A daughter will deserve a father's unconditional love I lie there making that commitment to her Until my subconscious desire to have been a part Is shaken by the realization I can't turn back time And the warmth of the moment Is suddenly lost so I wake up in tears.
